A Boy playing with fire on stage performance

Our History

Our organization’s roots trace back to the Permian Playhouse, a community theatre founded in 1965 to serve Odessa, Texas. For decades, the Permian Playhouse was a cornerstone of local arts, presenting plays, musicals, concerts, and special events that helped shape the cultural landscape of the Permian Basin.

Much of the organization’s early direction and philosophy was established under the leadership of Enid Holm, the Permian Playhouse’s first Managing Director, who served from 1965 to 1977. Her vision and leadership laid the groundwork for a strong community-focused theatre model that continues to influence our work today. In 1980, Enid Holm went on to serve as Executive Director of Texas Nonprofit Theatres (now the Theatre Network of Texas) for 16 years, extending her impact on theatre across the state.

While the Permian Playhouse has since closed and no longer operates as a venue or organization, its legacy lives on through the mission and programs we carry forward today.

In October 2022, our organization officially changed its name with the Texas Secretary of State to better reflect a modern, mission-based focus in theatre and arts education. Today, we are a community-based theatre organization dedicated to providing high-quality, culturally diverse theatrical experiences and meaningful educational opportunities for children, teens, and adults, without being tied to a single physical building.

Each year, we produce live theatre and offer inclusive educational programming designed to serve the cultural, educational, and entertainment needs of our community. Our educational initiatives include Triple Threat Academy, serving kindergarten through fifth-grade students, and La Lumbre Collective, which provides expanding educational opportunities for sixth through twelfth graders. Both programs continue to show steady growth, reflecting increased community engagement, deeper artistic development, and a strong demand for accessible, high-quality theatre education.

Honoring the past while embracing the future, we remain committed to making theatre accessible, educational, and impactful for the Permian Basin.
